Introduction: At LaPorte Habitat for Humanity we seek partner families throughout our community who need affordable housing to build a safe, decent place they can call home. Alongside our volunteers the family build their own home and pay an affordable mortgage. With our help and their efforts, they achieve strength, stability and independence to build a better life. You will play a critical role working with us to strengthen relationships and implement projects to help grow and build our partnerships with families and the community. You will access the resources of Habitat for Humanity International to build and improve our existing policies.
Description: You will assist in managing the LCHFH’s Family Services procedures for the recruitment and selection of homeowner families and volunteers, help coordinate the sale of homes and provide direction for the Habitat programs designed to support families after they have been selected. This position will also coordinate and support the work of the Homeowner Selection/Support Committee including scheduling, coordinating and attending committee meetings whilst assisting and nurturing homeowner candidates. As Volunteer Coordinator you will recruit, schedule and acknowledge volunteers while maintaining a volunteer database.

Thank you to all who came along to our volunteer day on June 12th 2021. It felt like one of the hottest days of the year – we all baked but the work was done and the landscaping looked awesome!
Welcome to all our volunteers, past and present and thank you for thinking of us! Your help will be valued in so many ways. You don’t need to have prior construction experience. Just come out with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. Our homes are built with your volunteer hours; you are the core of our organization. We welcome everyone, with all levels of skill to assist building the next home for our partner family.
Join us to work on site by:
Getting ready to build – Site prep/lot clearing, excavation.
Building – Framing and rough carpentry & salvage, siding, painting, carpentry, floor coverings, finishing.
Build the Fence Lay out the posts, dig holes, position post in concrete, attach the panels and post caps, stain or treat the wood.
Turn the House into a Home Help make the house ready to move in – clean the floors, hang blinds, fund raise to buy essentials.
Landscaping Clear the lot after the builders have left, prepare the soil, making a plan for planting, donating plants, planting, sewing seeds, cleaning up. Helping the homeowner learn about their new garden.
Errand runner for construction days
Provide food and drinks
Help organize tools and trailers
Seek donations of building materials and tools
During COVID-19, Habitat for Humanity International’s guidance to local Habitat organizations around the globe strongly recommends the adoption of a required face covering policy that would apply to all staff, volunteers, partner families, vendors and retail customers engaged in activities on Habitat premises, in addition to adherence to all additional local, state and national public health guidelines’. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and World Health Organization both continue to advise face coverings as an effective tool to control and reduce the spread of COVID-19.
We advise face masks when working inside the home build and to distance outside. See Indiana State stage 4.5 guidelines here. Face coverings are required according to Executive Order 20-37, at ‘special events’. You be asked to sign our Volunteer Waiver (see below) on arrival at the build site.
